Progress
In January, 2008, the Piatt County Animal Shelter leased a home for our fledgling facility from The Pontious Farm, a you-pick berry and herb farm in White Heath, Illinois.
But so much has happened since then!
For example: In April, 2008, when Jason Nixon of Nixon Construction, Monticello, IL, determined it would be more efficient and cost effective to demolish the Pontious Farm honey house (except for the foundation) and essentially build from scratch, the Piatt County Animal Shelter building project changed from an expansion/remodeling effort to a demolition/rebuilding effort.
Then, in June, 2008, when Ameren told Rick Pontious a power pole must be moved to accommodate the roof pitch of the new shelter at a cost of $8500, Rick and Nancee Moster Pontious, and Diana McPheeters agreed to move the site of new shelter to the southeast corner of The Pontious Farm.

It's 9 degrees Fahrenheit outside, with a wind chill of -12 degrees and wind gusts up to 37 miles per hour. Nevertheless, the volunteer demolition crew is hard at work pulling up the old wood floor in half of the honey house. (The other half is concrete.) Now that's dedication! |

Rick and Nancee Moster Pontious, and Diana McPheeters agree to move the site of new shelter to the southeast corner of The Pontious Farm. This is a more easily separable parcel if Rick and Nancee ever decide to sell the farm. But, more importantly, it's nowhere near that @#$%^ power pole! |

Under Tweedle's and Harley D's supervision, the Everlast Portable Building company of Sullivan, Illinois, installs a 20' x 12' building on the concrete pad.The Piatt County Animal Shelter is now in business at the Pontious Farm on Saturdays. HOORAY! See progress pictures. |
